Monique, 37 years old, grew up with an abusive alcoholic mother. She left home at 15 to get away from her mom, but a series of bad decisions and drug offenses landed her in state prison.
When she released from prison, she immediately found a boyfriend to rely on. Unfortunately, he chose to beat her up from time to time when she didn’t do as he asked. Finally abandoned by him with two children at home, Monique turned to heavy drug use as an escape from her real life. Unable to care for her children, they were taken away. Told that she might be able to regain custody if she completed required substance abuse treatment, Monique was referred to Resonance. After months of treatment, Monique has completed parenting classes, is working on her GED, and next month will regain custody of her children.
